Why Haven’t Ebikes taken off?

March 25th, 2010

Why haven’t ebikes taken off in the United States like they have in other parts of the world?

Recently I have been reading different thoughts on this and wanted to share them with you.  As you may begin to realize electric bikes are huge in China and India and establishing themselves very well in China. They are a means of commuting and total transportation.  In China ebikes are greater in number than there traditional bikes.

But, we Americans have always had a long standing love affair with our cars and our traditional bicycles.  I guess it is ones ego that seems to get in the way.  What would people think if I rode around on an electric bike? Just kidding..

Most hard core cyclist wouldn’t dream of turning in their wheels and they shouldn’t but those of us that may not be quite as energetic may find love and joy in riding an ebike.  Pedaling along the way always knowing that the power is there when needed. Not working up that lather as much yet still exercising.

Ebikes are a growing industry and I feel an exciting one at that.  For people in rural America they may not sound like a great deal but think of the times when you get into your car to do that short shopping trip.  Wouldn’t it make more sense jumping on an ebike and pedaling your way over?  It is just that.. getting people out of their cars!

I do think that once people get passed the hype of electric bikes and on to what it could mean to our overall economy, ebikes will take off in America.  Also as more new and improved batteries come online and more production within the U.S. of these bikes and  with better prices, you and I will begin to see an upsurge of popularity.

They will take off it is just a matter of when.
