Portland, OR.  is giving you the Power to be Green.

As I was doing some research today, something I do every day, I came across an article written by Lee Hong Liang about Portland, OR and this amazing city being the first to build a solar canopy charging station.

You see I have heard about these solar canopy charging stations in other countries, but Portland, OR has taken charge and is the first to install this canopy in the U.S.   This canopy provides 8.2kWh in the south parking lot of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

According to Lee, this was an effort among Sanyo, InSpec Group, the museum and Portland general Electric company.

This station will provide power to electric cars, ebikes and even your electronic devices.  This is just amazing to me.  We have come so far and the need and accessibility are at the forefront of our technology.

How Exciting!!!!

“Portland is at the forefront of integrating green-building, transportation and renewable energy,” says Portland mayor Sam Adams.  “It is a model for how we can deliver economic prosperity and sustainability side-by-side.”

This canopy is the size of three standard parking lots but this one has 195 solar modules that Sanyo provided.  The main features are waterproof lockers with 120V AC outlets with two lockers providing mounts for the ‘special’ Sanyo electric bike.

Either way, as technology continues to grow and as companies continue to partner up for the better of the earth, we will be seeing more and more of these solar panel charging stations pop up.
